Dick Comey died last Saturday night of congestive heart failure.  Many of NEMS younger racers won't know Dick but Dick, while never one of the fastest racers in Masters skiing, was one of the most active and enthusiastic, especially in the formative years of the Sise Cup.  He founded Comey's Comets to play Grendl to the Ski Club Hochgebirge's Beowulf and remained the autocratic, benevolent dictator of that organization for 20 years.  Dick was also something of a visionary and, long before the current proliferation of race camps catering to Masters racers, in fact long before any race camps catered to Masters racers, Dick, along with Allen Beck, instituted the Comey's Comets Masters Race Camp which has been held in Stowe each December for 25 consecutive years.  He had a heart of gold and will be missed.

Dick's memorial service will be held Saturday, May 23 rd at 11:00 AM in the Duvall Chapel, Deaconess Abundant Life Community, Deaconess Road, Concord MA.  (Off Rt. 2 and behind Emerson Hospital.)

If anyone is interested in saying a few words about Dick, his daughter-in-law, Betsy Reid is in charge of rememberances.  Her telephone number in Concord, MA is: (978) 369-4542.
