North Eastern Speed Cup - Rich Hutchinson

The elections are over, the votes have been cast and those elected are heading home to work on making the future bigger, better and brighter than it's ever been. Oh and there's a new sheriff in town.

NESC- North Eastern Speed Cup is where it's all happening for the speed freaks and adrenalin junkies from now on. It begins with a new website- www.northeasternspeedcup.com where you can find everything from gear you can win by simply logging onto the site, find a schedule of events, chat with former U.S. Downhill Ski Teamer & 3 time Olympian Doug Lewis, tech tips from Graham Lenetto at Edgewise Tuning. for free, video of world cup events, a segment called "Twisted TV", sell or buy ski equipment, chat with fellow racers in our forum about.whatever blows your skirt up, news about Masters racing, pictures and results from last years events, listen to some rock n roll or simply join for free and we'll keep you in the loop as things happen, change, evolve and progress with NESC.

"Events"- that's what these are. These aren't simply races anymore but true events we're going to be setting up. They aren't anything like we've been to or seen before unless you were an ex world cup racer or Pro Tour competitor. I'm not talking about difficulty levels here- I'm talking about fun, atmosphere, set up & safety. From the moment you arrive at the mountain- even if you're NOT a racer, you'll know something big is going on here. We have better courses, better video, speed traps, more prizes, more bling, more pop & sizzle and more sponsors than we've ever had in the past... not to mention cash prizes as well. The start and finish corrals will be lined with banners and flags of our sponsors- the courses will be longer, safer and- well. you'll just have to wait and see what these courses are going to look like. In any case, all of this adds up to lots of great, safe racing & one hell of good time for everyone.

The events and training are not limited to the elite- but instead we intend to reach out to as many mountain & college ski teams, ski clubs, coaches, USSA team and Masters racers as possible. We also have a comprehensive list of all the ski shops in the Northeastern U.S. Everyone will know about NESC and it's events. This is a "grass roots" effort and it's important that everyone who wants to see speed events flourish, join in and pass the information on to your ski racing buddies, friends, family members, etc..

We are cocked, locked and ready to rock. NESC officially starts this party off at The Legends Downhill course at Sugarbush VT. It's an event that is meticulously run for us by Doug Lewis. and with a little coaxing, Doug might even set the pace for the rest of us at this race. This event has always been known for it's great course and having all the aspects of a great run while maintaining high safety standards. There is gliding, high speed turns, flats and jumps this year. There is also going to be four days of camps prior to the DH race. There will be two days of Super-G camps followed by two days of DH camps and then the race. Please check the February schedule for exact dates, times and costs of these great speed camps as these will fill up fast.

We are also running other great events, including one at Mt Snow. a classic DH course to say the least.

Some of you guys may have run this baby in your earlier days when men were men and sheep were nervous.

It too, is destined for greatness with it's terrain changes, speed and classic DH style. I'm not sure who's more stoked about the event. the Mt Snow crew or us at NESC--- I'm going with us.

Did I mention the point system with each race? It'll be the same as the current world cup system and each race accrues points towards the overall title. So, the more races you can get to, the better. There will be several age categories as well as an overall winner for both men and women at the end of the season with cash for each AND their name goes on a cup for the year(s) they win.much like the "Stanley Cup" in pro hockey.
