2009 Eastern Masters Championships
The Skiers Edge Eastern Masters Championships are starting to take shape with details falling into place and the awards-table growing. Scheduled for March 5-8 at Whiteface Mountain, N.Y. the series promises world-class, competitive venues for all four events, as well as a entertaining social scene.
A SG training day will be offered on Thursday, March 5, followed by the newly added super combined race on Friday, March 6. The Championships SG will be contested Friday morning, followed by a one-run slalom in the afternoon, which will be added to the morning SG to determine the super combined winner. This event will be used in the calculations to determine the overall Eastern Championship Team. A giant slalom will follow on Saturday, and the slalom, to be contested on separate A/B and C/D courses, will wrap up the series on Sunday.

Once again the local watering hole, Wise Guys will host awards parties on Friday and Saturday evenings, where racers can expect the complete array of food, raffles, games, and contests, in addition to awards.
Discounted lodging is available at the Wildwood Motel, located ½ mile from the center of Lake Placid. The Wildwood has it’s own tuning room and a variety of restaurants with walking distance. Call 518-523-2624 and identify yourself as a masters racer. Two and three-day packages are available.
For those wishing to stay closer to Whiteface Mountain, Steinhoff’s is a family lodge with a restaurant and bar, located 21/2 miles from the mountain. The rates are very reasonable. Call 518-946-2220.
Masters are encouraged to register for the race online. See your regional web sites or go to www.USSA.org. Temporary memberships will be available for a cost of $25 for the series, although those racing on temporary memberships will not be eligible for the Eastern Regional Team.
