75th
Anniversary Hochebirge Ski Club Slalom Feb. 25, 2006
Cannon Mt.,
NH. The Ski Club Hochebirge was formed in
1931 by former Harvard Ski Team members with a common love for skiing and all
things adventurous. Early Hochebirge races were held on Mt.
Moosilaukee and in Tuckerman’s
Ravine before finding a home on Cannon
Mountain in Franconia
Notch. Many of the early ski races were team events and it is in this
spirit that the current incarnation of the Hochebirge Challenge is run, as a
team race on the Sise Cup Masters calendar. The Club is now accepting
entries for individuals and teams of four for this anniversary year
event. Teams may be: four women, class 1 and 2 men, class 3 and 4 men,
class 5 and 6 men, class 7and 8 men, class 9 and 10 men, and class 11 and 12
men. Men’s teams will be classified by the age of the youngest racer on
the team. Awards presented are; Clarita Bright Trophy for the fastest woman
on a team, Alex Bright Award for the fastest man on a team, Michael J.
Harding Award for the winning women’s team, and the Hochebirge Challenge Cup
for the fastest team overall. New this year will be the Sandra Bolduc
award for outlandish skiing/behavior, you’ll have to be at the awards to see
how that gets decided. The team entry fee is $20 to cover trophy costs.
As always all racers and spectators are invited to join the club
for libations, dinner (we accept a donation to cover the cost of food if you
wish to eat) and awards back at the Hochie Hilton in Franconia.
Weather permitting the race will be immortalized on video and although the
laundry chute is now sealed up we’ve been known to throw a pretty good party.
